In 2007, 100 years since the birth of the legendary Cuban musician Compay Segundo have been celebrated. Before dying, he chose his successors, so that they could disseminate his music all around the world: the group, composed by eleven musicians, which includes his two sons Salvador and Basilio, is called “Grupo Compay Segundo”, some of whom participated in the Wim Wenders film “Buena Vista Social Club”.
The soul of Maximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz (Compay Segundo) is always present in the 'Grupo Compay Segundo' and radiates the spirit of Cuba through this group, that got its name after his death, perpetuating the testimony of one of the most popular artists in the world. Compay Segundo is, after Miguel Matamoros, the other main character who put into the words and the music a world of characteristic images of the conversation and singing of Cuban peasants, saving this heritage of rich sound, humor and imagination. In addition to its contribution to the Cuban cultural heritage the promotion of an instrument, the harmonic sound and the introduction of the clarinet is very important for the instrumental ensemble.
