The villa commands some of the most breathtaking views of the entire city of Florence. What is particularly impressive of the Villa are its quiet and sunny gardens, which serve as a contemplative entourage to the bustling city of Florence. Guests feel they are in the countryside, whilst being only 15 minutes away from the centre of town. The Villa is an ideal wedding setting for your wedding in Florence.
Dante Alighieri has been recorded to be the first owner of the original house with its tower and podere. It was this ensemble that has become the Villa as it is known today.
Dante's house was sold to the Portinari family in 1332. The new owners had the loggia constructed. Visitors can still admire the balcony. After the Portinari family, the villa was owned by a series of different wealthy local families. Some brought about some substantial alterations. During the 19th century, for example, the Bondi family undertook a substantial renovation of the whole villa. To honour the famous poet that had once inhabited the villa, the Bondi had a marble plaque adorned with the profiles of Dante and Beatrice, Dante's famous first and only love. More recently, right after the Second World War when the villa was heavily bombarded, Count Pier Francesco Rimbotti bought the villa's ruins and the surrounding estate. The villa was re-erected in a very short time, paying particular attention not to alter the original 14th plan. The Villa thus returned to be a magnificent building.
