Situated in the wonderful and unique hills of Chianti, the castle is one of the Tuscany's most important fourteenth-century castle.
The main part of the castle is represented by the courtyard, considered the most suggestive of Chianti area. The different architectonic styles, make this courtyard unique and original. Nowadays the courtyard is used as "frame" for concert, middle age banquet and wedding ceremonies.

According to the ancient archives the construction of the castle was begun in 1252. Originally it was a small country owned by Visdomini di Petroja family (San Giovan Gualberto, the patron of Chianti, was one ot the members of this family).
At the end of the 15 th century the "Repubblica Fiorentina" transformed the castle into a fortress, which they held for 2 centuries.
Latest the city of Florence gave the castle to the Barons Miniati because of their grand military owns the property to this day.

What we see today is the result of restoration work carried out on the Castle in the early 19th century, a scheme that was heavily influenced by the Romantic cult of the Middle Ages in vogue at the time.
