BALKANICAOS has a main nucleus composed of four musicians (violin, clarinet and sax, accordion, double bass), to which others may be added, on the basis of their “peregrinations” across the world. The group was founded by combining musicians from the various Italian regions who shared the same love for the Balkan Peninsula. These musicians joined together with the common intent to travel around with the music of those lands that for time immemorial have been torn by wars and local feuds.
The repertoire includes compositions by musicians who have reached international acclaim, such as Bregovic or the Cocani Orchestra, and others chosen from the immense traditional wealth of folk music, including the Yiddish culture and caressing gypsy music. Particularly pleasant and amusing is the formation that includes a skilled actor (Andrea Kaemmerle) who, through very intelligent sketches, transforms the musical performance into an interactive show, always based on Balkan traditions and way of live (in the Italian language).
