Music in Italy

GUITAR

Classical music for events and weddings in Italy.

Of Spanish origins, at the age of nine he began his studies as classical guitarist in Italy, under the tutorship of various maestros, immediately standing out for his particular musical gift. At the age of thirteen he gave his first concerts, interpreting, in particular, composers such as ALBENIZ, GRANADOS, VILLA LOBOS, MORENO TORROBA. This period in his life will prove to be particularly important for his artistic and musical formation. The following year, his passion for flamenco guitar will lead him to master this instrument, under the tutorship of the maestros MIGUEL PERÈZ and MÀRIO ESCUDERO in Seville where, in addition to studying, he also soon begins working in Tablaos e in Fiestas in the city. His meeting with PACO DE LUCIA and his collaboration with VICTOR MONGE "SERRANITO" in Madrid prove particularly important.

In his twenty years of activity as a musician he has held over 1500 concerts; he works and collaborates, also for records, with the leading exponents of the world of flamenco, among whom:
- the guitarists JOSÉ LUIS POSTIGO, SERRANITO, MIGUEL RIVERA, RAMON RUIZ, MERENGUE DE CORDOBA, PACO SERRANO, CARLOS HEREDIA, MIGUEL IVEN, MANITAS DE PLATA;
- the cantaores JOSÉ DE LA TOMASA, CARMEN SANCHEZ, FELIX DE LOLA, JOSÈ LUIS SALGUERO;
- the dancers EL JUNCO, IOAQUIN RUIZ, JUAN ORTEGA, MAITE PIQUERAS, PILAR CARMONA, CARMEN REINA, MIGUEL ANGEL ESPINO, MANOLO MARIN.
In 1996 he founds his own company, "FLAMENCO LIBRE", with which he holds numerous shows in the leading festivals and theatres both in Italy and the world over. In 1997 he becomes a member of the only officially recognised flamenco institute in the world, the “Fundacion CRISTINA HEEREN de Seville”, where, in collaboration with the Fundacion in the person of maestro JOSÈ LUIS POSTIGO, he creates the show “El Flamenco de Sevilla”, which toured in Europe during the three-year period between 1998 and 2001. Furthermore, during the same year, with the Fundacion he plays in the television programme “Speciale Flamenco” (RAI 1), in the show “La Feria de Abril”, inspired by the grand flamenco – Andalusia exhibition held in Seville. Between 1998-1999, he collaborates in the creation of the book and CD “La Chitarra Flamenca d’autore” (published by Guitart), together with one of the leading flamencologists, EUSEBIO RIJOA; the book deals with the history of this instrument, through its greatest composers. In addition to the various companies and special appearances (media, CD, Video, etc.), Juan LORENZO carries out a regular concert and composing activity (his music has been included in television and radio programmes and in soundtracks for films and theatre performances). As a soloist, he is one of the rare flamenco guitarists who interprets music by other composers, in addition to his own compositions; indeed, he has played in various European companies, Festivals and Conservatories, performing the following recitals: - “Flamenco de Concierto” – 1990/1992;
- the concert “Chitarra Flamenca d’Autore” – 1993/1995;
- the “Storia della chitarra Flamenca” – 1996/1998;
- “Homenaje a Sabicas” – 1999/2001.
He has appeared several time in Italian and Spanish television programmes, in particular in Italy he has worked for the Teatro Tenda in Rome, for the Artistic Direction of MAURIZIO COSTANZO and has participated in the Taormina Arte Festival for the television programme "Noche Gitana" (RAI 1), in the "Atkins Dadi Guitar Player Associatíon" Festival (Soave) and in 1999 in the JETHRO TULL tour “Flamenco rock music”. He has been invited several times to be a member of the panel of judges for international competitions (Mauro Giuliani in Bari, Nicola Fago in Taranto, Savona in musica, Nicolò Paganini in Parma, etc.). In addition to “cultural” music, his is often invited to collaborate with important pop music artists, such as PINO DANIELE, TONY ESPOSITO, ANDREA BOCELLI, etc. He carries out an interesting didactic activity for flamenco both in Italy and abroad, holds seminars and writes for specialised magazines (Chitarre Classiche, Guitart Flamenco, etc.). He has published over twenty works for important publishing houses and record companies, distributed in Italy, the United States, Spain, France, Germany and Japan.
